The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has dismissed a notice rescheduling the party emergency national convention for Jan. 17.

The NRM acting National Secretary Obidike Okolo, disclosed this in a statement he issued on Monday in Abuja from the party National Management Committee (NMC).

He said that the attention of the NMC had been drawn to a publication on notice on the emergency national convention scheduled to hold at DRACC, Lugbe, Abuja.

Okolo said that the publication of notice never emanated from the party, rather the handiwork of mischief makers from Mr Isaac Chigozie Udeh and Chief Edozie Njoku.

Njoku was recently removed by the Supreme Court, as the National Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

Okolo said that Udeh who signed the publication was not a member of NRM, neither was he the Chairman.

He said that Udeh had been validly suspended from the Party since Sept. 19, 2024, and a vote of no confidence passed on him on Sept. 24, 2024.

Okolo said that in spite Udeh suspension from the party, he had perfected plans to surreptitiously convene an illegal, illegitimate and unauthorised convention.

He said that attempts was to forcefully impose Njoku, as NRM new national chairman and others as national officers of the party.

He described the action as an attempt to hijack the party through the back door.

“The public is hereby informed that the NMC and NEC of the NRM has not agreed to hold any Convention howsoever.

“More so, NRM Convention for Cabinet reschedule is usually once in 4 years. The last was in 2022 and the next convention is destined to hold in 2026,” he said.

Okolosaid that to conduct a National Convention, a 21 days’ notice must be sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He added that notice must be signed by the national chairman and the national secretary, or two-third majority of the members of NEC, saying this has not been done.

Okolo said that as the National Secretary of NRM he had never authored, signed or co-signed any letter calling for any Convention.

He said that the party had petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) as well as the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) against Udeh and Njoku and their cohorts over their conducts.

He said that the petition submitted on Monday, Jan. 13 was copied to the Chairman of INEC.

“Hence we implore all Party members and the general public to disregard the said notice to hold emergency convention

“We are also calling on the law enforcement agencies to cause a discrete investigation aimed at bringing the perpetrators to book and thwart all plans to breach of peace,” Okolo said.
