The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has tasked personnel of the Nigerian Army to pay more premium to training so as to enhance their combat readiness for operational efficiency.
Yahaya made the call at the closing of the Nigerian Army Inter-Divisions Combat Orienteering Competition on Friday at Godwin Ally Cantonment, Ogoja, Cross River State.
The COAS, who was represented by the Commander Corps of Supply and Transport, Maj.-Gen. Erema Akerejola, reminded the contingents that the essence of the championship was to keep troops on alert in the fight against insurgency and other security challenges bedeviling the country.
He said the championship had improved the efficiency in leadership skills, organisational ability and endurance as well as enhanced esprit-de corps, physical fitness, navigation and minor tactics of personnel amongst others.
Yahaya expressed satisfaction with the level of military bearing, stamina and endurance exhibited by the participants during the championship adding that skills gathered during the Championship would assist to improve leadership traits and boost morale of troops.
The 82 Division contingents have won championship with 53 points ahead of 3 Division and 2 Division which came second and third with 52 and 46 points respectively while 1 Division ended in fourth position with 42 points.
The Championship is one of the series of training activities lined up for the Nigerian Army 2022 training year.
It featured ten kilometers run, physical fitness assessment test, twenty kilometers navigation and thirty kilometers Combat Race.
