Group drums support for President Tinubu

By Emmanuel Oloniruha

The Project Rescue Nigeria Team (PRNT), an NGO, has called for Nigerians to exercise patience and continue to support President Bola Tinubu’s policies towards addressing various challenges facing the country.

The National Coordinator of the group, Mr Ibrahim Aboki, made the appeal at a news conference on Thursday in Abuja.

Aboki said that “no doubt Nigeria is in for a new beginning that will yield a great economy and political stability’’ where all hopes are renewed.

He commended Tinubu’s early moves and decision in the areas of removal of fuel subsidy, political appointments and signing of significant Bills into laws.

“We wish to at this juncture, thank all Nigerians for their patience so far with policies which might at the moment cause little discomfort to us all but with a long term good to come with.

“We urge everyone to continue in this light, as the dividends will come gradually just like we are beginning to experience in the drop in prices of commodities such as the cooking gas, diesel, etc, in recent times and more are still coming,’’ Aboki said.

He said that within few weeks of his assumption of office, Tinubu has assented to outstanding and encompassing three Bills that would have positive impacts on the country.

He listed the Bills signed in to law to include the 2023 Electricity Bill which deregulated the power sector to enable active private and indigenous participation as well as address the perennial challenge of electricity in the country.

Aboki said that assenting to Bill on new retirement age for judiciary officers as well as the Students Loan Bill which was initiated to bring relief and succour to the lives of the indigent and less privileged ones were commendable.

“Now, anybody can aspire to acquire higher education in Nigeria. The widening gap between the rich and poor in education has now been mitigated by the Tinubu/Shettima government,’’ he said.

Aboki noted that so far the various appointments made by Tinubu were wonderful with experts and technocrats in their various fields, saying “this is by all standards a case of fixing a round peg in a round hole’’.

These, according to him, included the appointments of Femi Gbajabiamila as his Chief of Staff, Sen. George Akume as the Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF) and special advisers to the president.

“Obviously, Nigeria is poised for greatness. Mr President is tactical and very well equipped for the task before him.

“Boosting the momentum of the economy to fly on a free market leading to trade liberalisation, Mr President has removed fuel subsidy as this will reduce corruption and abolish round tripping in the petroleum sector.

“Fuel Subsidy removal is more of a blessing than a curse on Nigeria economy.’’

He added that Tinubu within his weeks of assumption of office also demonstrated his commitment to securing the lives and property of Nigerians by meeting with the immediate past Service Chiefs and the National Security Adviser.

He said that Tinubu also convened a meeting of all the 36 state governors, including those elected on the platform of the opposition parties, to advance collaboration, to build internal cohesion and foster unity in Nigeria.

Aboki said that Tinubu had also shown his commitment to fight corruption by suspending heads of government agencies facing alleged cases of corruption.

They included Mr Godwin Emefiele of Central Bank of Nigeria and Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissions. (NAN)
