College provost tasks philanthropists on support for less-privileged
By Stephen Adeleye
The Provost of the College of Health Sciences and Technology Idah, Kogi, Dr Nuhu Anyegwu, has called on philanthropists and public spirited individuals to assist the less-privileged in the society.
Anyegwu made the appeal at the formal inauguration of Noka Charity Foundation and public lecture on the devastating effects of child’s labour and molestation on young lives in Idah, Kogi on Thursday.
He said that with adequate support for the less privileged, their lives and the society would be better off.
He commended the initiative of the founder of the Foundation, Mrs Jennifer Amedu, urging her to keep up the good gesture.
Anyegwu also urged well-meaning individuals in the society to support the foundation in cash or kind to achieve its mission of effecting positive change in the Society.
“Those who do great things are not necessarily people with big money but people with a big heart,” Anyegwu said.
The Guest Speaker of the occasion, Mr Rotimi Meseko, in his paper presentation titled “the devastating effect of child labour and molestation to young lives” attributed poverty and ignorance to reasons parents exposed their wards to child labour.
Meseko urged parents not to neglect their children, but cater for their education and wellbeing for a better tomorrow.
Similarly, the Ejeh of Ibaji, His Royal Highness, John Egwemi, lauded the proprietress and her team for the show of love and effort towards creating a better society, where girls would be free from all forms of molestation and sexual harassment.
The proprietress of Noka Charity Foundation, Mrs Jennifer Amedu, said the gesture was borne out of her desire to sensitise the general public to the traumatic effects of child labour and molestation.
Other participants at the public lecture include parents, care-givers, selected pupils and students from different schools in Kogi.
Highlights of the occasion include presentation of gifts to the participating students.
Noka’s Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 2016 to among other cater for the less-privileged in the society.
The foundation was later renamed Noka Charity Foundation and registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission on Aug. 7.
