Members of Obeagu Town Union, Obeagu Awkunanaw Local Government Area of Enugu state, have expressed dissatisfaction with the decision of the House Committee on Public Petition that stuck out their case on alleged intimidation and land grabbing.

The Chairman of the committee, Rep. Mike Etaba (PDP-Cross River) had earlier struck out the case on the ground that the matter was before a competent court of jurisdiction.

Reacting to the development, Chief Sunday Nnaji who spoke to newsmen on behalf of the community in Abuja, said that the matter before the petition committee was not in court.

He said they were before the parliament to seek protection of their lives and property against groups of land grabbers allegedly being aided by some police officers.

“The committee chairman did not look into our petition because if he had done so, he would known that why we are here is not about land issue which was in court which we are contesting.

“We are here for security of our lives and properties of which some officers of the police in Enugu had been aiding some groups of land grabbers within Enugu to invade our properties.

“That is why we are here but what the Chairman said that everything is in court even when the matter is not in court,” he said.

He said that the union was in position of preliminary police investigation which could aid the committee but was not considered.

Nnaji, however, said that the union would return to their committee to hold meetings on the next course of action to take in pursuit of justice. (NAN)
