As public reactions grow over media reports that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike inadvertently appointed Adam Babagana, a veterinarian ‘posing as a medical doctor’, as Permanent Secretary of the FCTA Health Secretariat, top fashion executive and publicist for late GMD of Access Holdings, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, Kazeem Tanimu, popularly known as TM Kazeem, has called on Wike to investigate the issues.
The uproar began when an online newspaper ,Ghana Politics Online , released a report alleging that Babagana deceived the FCT Minister by falsely claiming to be a medical doctor, pointing out that the embattled Perm Sec’s elaborate scheme involved bribing key individuals within the minister’s inner circle to endorse his fraudulent claims.
According to the online paper “Insiders suggest he spent over 400 million Naira to secure these endorsements and smoothed his path to the prestigious appointment.
“Since assuming the role, the health sector under Babagana’s leadership has reportedly experienced a worrying decline in standards, with rising death rates in public health facilities. The fraudulent appointment has raised concerns about the vetting processes for key government roles and the extent of corruption within the system.,” the paper added.
However, the report has continued to generate public reactions, particularly from FCT residents, with a buzz on social media, as many social media influencers use their pages to call on the FCT minister to addressed the alleged abnormality in the health sector within the territory.
Tanimu, a youth mobilizer and advocate of good governance across Africa, is now one of many concerned Nigerians who want the allegation investigated to ensure that ‘square pegs are not left in round holes.’
He said: “Issues of human health should not be mixed with politics, and that is why I want the FCT minister to look into this huge allegation and not to keep quiet.
“ Let them tell us if this issues raised are true or not with clear evidences, and the man in question should come out clean by making his academic qualifications public to save us from this embracement, because other countries already making mockery of us, even Ghana.
“Also, the issues of corruption and financial malpractices raised by the report should be investigated accordingly by the minister” he said.
For now, neither the FCT Minister, nor the embattled Perm Sec has issued an official statement addressing the scandal.
