Coastal Roads Projects: Diaspora investors seek Tinubu’s intervention on demolition of $300b property
By Emmanuel Oloniruha
A non-governmental organisation, Rescue Movement for New Nigeria, has urged President Bola Tinubu to probe the demolition of over 300 million dollars real estate invest in Nigeria belonging to Nigerians in diaspora.
The leader of the movement, Faduri Joseph, popularly known as Fadojoe, made the call at a news conference on Tuesday in Abuja.
Joseph urged Tinubu to call the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to order to stop destroying the investments of Nigerians in the country.
He said that after getting the necessary documents, Nigerians in diaspora chose to invest the above amount in Nigeria, but the properties were demolished due to the ongoing Lagos –Calabar Coastal Roads Projects.
He, however, alleged that the properties were demolished by Umahi in total disobedience to court orders even when the matter was before a court of competent jurisdiction in the country.
He urged Tinubu to probe Umahi, his ministry, as well as proper assessment of other ministries as their action is considered to be against the agenda of the present administration.
“We appeal to President Tinubu to look into Umahi’s handlings and activities in the Ministry of Works and Housing as regards the Lagos –Calabar Coastal Roads Project.
“We demand that the ongoing land grabbing and illegal demolition by Umahi be stopped and well probed.
“So that cases of using excuses to destroy legal projects will be properly looked into.
“The government is begging investors to come to the country and destroying their investment is discouraging and scaring other investors away from our dear country.
“So, we appeal to the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Assembly to look into making laws that will protect foreign investors and their investment in the country.
“We Nigerians in diaspora want to rebuild and make our dear nation great again; but we need the enabling environment and assurance from our government that our investments will be secured and safe,” he said.
Joseph said that no one in Nigeria should be above the law of the land, hence the need for an urgent call to the President Tinubu to intervene.
On the challenges facing the country, Joseph attributed them to bad leadership and failure of the citizens to perform their obligations to the country.
He said that God has blessed Nigeria with abundant human resources, most brilliant, most intelligent people on earth, adding that after 64 years of independence, the nation has nothing to show for it.
“Bad leadership has eaten so deep into the fabric of our nation, and corruption is destroying us daily.
“A nation where religion, ethnicity, and politics have been used to divide us for so long,” he said.
He added that the country had also suffered from bad leaders who did not believe in the rule of law and those who intentionally destroyed the judiciary system of the country.
He urged citizens to rise up to their responsibility of rebuilding the country.
“But my fellow Nigerians, today I say Enough is Enough. There is no nation that can succeed where the citizens are failing.
“Failure does not have tribe: failure is not a Yoruba man, failure is not an Igbo man, failure is not a Hausa man.
“And the failure of leadership in our nation must end now,” he said.
