The African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential Candidate in 2023, Omoyele Sowere, has advised the Federal Government to address economic inequality in the country.

Sowere gave the advice in an interview with journalists on a sideline of the 50th birthday ceremony of Queen Lilian Adebayo, the wife of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo in Abuja.

He identified economic inequality as one of the factors causing insecurity in the country.

Sowere who claimed he would have addressed Boko Haram and bandits if elected president, said there is no way insecurity could be addressed without tackling the root cause of the menace.

“The root cause of the problem of insecurity is first and foremost economic inequality.

“The second aspect of it is to get our security agencies to do what security agencies do,’’ Sowere said.

He said that the security personnel must be made to do their work, not engaging in activities outside their mandates.

He empahsised the need to get the country’s leadership right, saying leadership is key in every challenge confronting the nation.

Sowere said that he would make the different when elected President of Nigeria.

“I have prepared myself for over 35 years now. I have been fighting against insecurity, corruption. I am one of the few people that fought for democracy in this country,’’ he said.

Speaking on the ongoing move to form coalition by some opposition leaders, Sowere said that was not the kind of coalition Nigerians needed at the moment.

He described those presently involved as people looking for offers.

The National Secretary of Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Chief Peter Ameh, who also spoke said that coalition ahead of 2027 general election was good, but it should be the decision of ordinary Nigerians.

“Coalition is good, but that should be the decision by Nigerians who have been forgotten by the government, people who have no access to quality healthcare and access to quality healthcare, education among others,’’ he said.

Ameh, a former National Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), advised governments at all levels against any form of high-handedness against the opposition parties in the interest of Nigeria’s democracy.

He urged all Nigerians to come together and work for the development of the country.

The Chairman of State Chairmen Forum, Social Democratic Party (SDP), Femi Olaniyi, popularly known as Ferrari, urged all Nigerians especially the youths and women to join SDP.

Ferrari said that SDP, saying the party is going to give the Nigerians real change they desire.

On inflow of politicians from other parties into SDP, Ferrari said that SDP was fully prepared to handle the surge.

He, however, re-emphasised the stand of the forum that anybody joining the SDP must join at the ward level for proper documentation and membership registration.
