As part of efforts to achieve a hitch free National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commence recognising security structure at it national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
Some of the in life security restructuring effected by the PDP acting National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo, include the redeployment of another experienced staff to head the party security department.
Koshoedo also directed other security measures including screening of visitors and regulation of activities of non-staff operating within the party secretariat.
The decision came after his inspection of security architecture and facilities at the secretariat, following his Monday meeting with PDP.
A committee was also proposed at meeting to investigate past breaches at the party’s national secretariat for a more effective reorganisation.
Th staff members at the meeting expressed grave concerns over continuous security breaches at the secretariat, including access strange persons and unauthorised armed persons.
They recall recent event where members of the National Working Committee (NWC) were assaulted by political thugs who also attempted to prevent the party officials and other stakeholders access to the secretariat.
The staff members also cited an experience where the thugs issued threats to them and prevented them from accessing the party national secretariat.
It will be recalled that the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) earlier raised concerns over the security breaches leading to the disruption of its recent meeting at the secretariat, where it resolved not to meet at the party’s secretariat until security is restored.
The on-going reorganisation of the security structure ahead of the NEC meeting has been commended by party leaders and members as a right step by the Iliya Damagum-led NWC to reassure party members and workers of their safety at the party’s national secretariat especially at the May 27 NEC meeting.
