Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, representing Yobe South Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, has urged Nigerians to shun divisive narratives and work together to strengthen national peace and unity.

Speaking during a recent media interaction, the lawmaker addressed growing controversy surrounding allegations of a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria, describing such claims as misleading and capable of inflaming tensions across the country.

“Our mission, as leaders and citizens, is to speak the truth, unite our people, and build lasting peace,” Senator Bomai said.

“With renewed hope and shared purpose, we can secure a better future for every Nigerian.”

The senator, who is a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), noted that Nigeria’s security challenges are multifaceted and should not be reduced to religious conflict.

“Our journey as a nation has not been without challenges. Violence in Nigeria remains a complex issue — rooted in terrorism, communal conflict, land disputes, and banditry. It is not about one religion against another,” he explained.

Senator Bomai emphasised that official security assessments and statements by traditional and religious leaders have confirmed that there is no evidence of a coordinated Christian genocide in Nigeria.

He warned that false narratives only deepen mistrust and hinder ongoing efforts toward reconciliation and development.

“Nigerian authorities and traditional leaders have made it clear: this is not a ‘Christian genocide.’ Such claims are false and only deepen division,” he said.

The lawmaker called on fellow leaders, faith organisations, and community influencers to use their platforms to promote unity, tolerance, and national healing. He said peace building requires consistent truth-telling and collaboration between government institutions and citizens.

“As a people, we must rise above fear and suspicion. What Nigeria needs now is solidarity and shared commitment to nation-building,” Bomai added.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen national security and foster mutual understanding among Nigeria’s diverse communities.
