Sen. Haruna Muna (APC-Taraba) has called for maintenance and reconstruction of Gashaka-Sardauna federal road in Taraba to prevent its complete collapse.
Muna made the call at a roundtable with the Managing Director of Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Mr Chukwuemeka Agbasi, in Abuja on Friday.
The lawmaker, representing Taraba Central in the red chambers, said that the deplorable state of the road had put additional stress on commuters and delayed businesses and movement of goods and services in the area.
He said that the main federal road connecting two local government areas in the state needed urgent intervention.
The stretches, according to him, include Gashaka Local Government link to Sardauna council, Serti-Gembu Road, Mayo-Selbe in Gashaka to Nguroje in Sardauna and Lekitaba in Sardauna council to Gembu.
The senator said that the area needed critical repairs, as the road had almost cave-in due to gully erosion
“I urge FERMA to prioritise the restoration plan to ensure the road is fixed without delay, as it serves as a major link to two big local government areas in the state,” he said.
Responding, the FERMA boss said that a comprehensive evaluation of the road would be conducted for the necessary restoration arrangements.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
