The Public Complaints Commission (PCC) says it received 1,281,984 complaints in the last two years and resolved 716,688 of them.

The Chief Commissioner of the Commission, Hon. Bashir Abubakar, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja during a news conference on his stewardship.

Abubakar recalled that he assumed office on Sept. 24, 2024, alongside 37 Federal Commissioners representing the 36 states and FCT.

He said they were charged by the leadership of the National Assembly to sanitise and reposition the Commission for effective service delivery.

According to him, the PCC, established in 1975 as Nigeria’s foremost Ombudsman, is mandated to investigate maladministration, corruption and abuse of office.

He said the commission also safeguards rights of citizens and non-citizens in dealings with public institutions and private organisations.

Abubakar said his administration proposed over 100 per cent increase in the Commission’s Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, leading to improved budgetary allocation.

According to him, the commission has commenced implementation of full Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS) from July 2026.

He said this had empowered the commission to pay its workforce full salaries, in addition to settlement of outstanding arrears.

The arrears, according to him, include wage award, 2024 and 2025 promotion arrears.

He added that monthly allocations to all state offices, including FCT, have been increased to boost operations.

Abubakar said the commission conducted biometric verification in all PCC offices nationwide to establish verifiable nominal roll.

He said the commission created new directorates to enhance operational efficiency due to increased complaint index.

He said over 1,185 staff were trained in 2024, while 3,410 personnel have so far been trained in 2026.

The chief commissioner said ICT unit and call centre were upgraded to enhance visibility and public access.

He said the commission also embarked on aggressive publicity drive which resulted in surge in complaints.

According to him, industrial harmony exists between management and unions, with open-door policy entrenched for robust relationship.

He recalled that in 2025, the commission celebrated its 50th anniversary, which boosted partnerships with stakeholders.

Abubakar announced that the commission would hold its first Nigerian Ombudsman Conference on Thursday.
According to him, the theme is “System Building and Compliance: Key Factors to Good Governance.”

He said the conference would attract founding fathers of the commission, policy makers and stakeholders.

He attributed the achievements to the support of President Bola Tinubu, National Assembly, Budget Office and Ministry of Finance. (NAN)
