Sen. Haruna Manu (APC-Taraba) has urged residents of Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba to embrace peaceful coexistence.
The News Agency of Nigeria NAN reports that the senator’s called was sequel to last Tuesday’s clash between between members of two ethnic groups in the council area.
In a statement in Abuja on Monday, Manu sympathised with the families of those who lost their lives in the violence and urged residents to put the incident behind them and allow peace to reign.
He condemned the attack, which occurred in Mbamga communities along the Nigeria-Cameroon border, reportedly leaving nine residents dead.
The lawmaker, who represents Taraba Central Senatorial District, appealed for calm and urged residents of the affected communities to refrain from actions capable of further escalating tensions.
“I want to appeal for understanding and plead with the families of the victims of the clash. This development is uncalled for, especially at this trying period for all and sundry,” Manu said. (NAN)
